Why the Anime Hunter x Hunter is Better Than Cowboy Bebop

As an avid fan of both Hunter X Hunter and Cowboy Bebop, I can personally attest to the merits of both series. Both anime are masterpieces in their own right and have sparked countless debates between fans as to which is the superior show. After considering both series in detail, I ultimately have to give the nod to Hunter X Hunter.

There are several key aspects that set Hunter X Hunter apart from Cowboy Bebop and have earned it the title of supreme anime classic. To start, Hunter X Hunter takes a much grittier approach to its narrative. Whereas Cowboy Bebop has its share of intense moments, Hunter X Hunter goes further and depicts a world entirely consumed by violence and darkness. The characters of both shows have had to deal with significant losses and tragedies, but those of Hunter X Hunter more often than not reach their breaking point and are pushed to the brink of hopelessness and despair.

On that note, Hunter X Hunter also succeeds in creating engaging and lovable characters through its use of character development. In spite of the series' edginess, viewers find themselves quickly enamored with protagonists Gon Freecss and Killua Zoldyk as they drive ever closer to their goals and reveal their innermost traits. The characters of Hunter X Hunter are endearing, compelling and more nuanced than those of Cowboy Bebop, whose characters occasionally appear two-dimensional in comparison.

Lastly, Hunter X Hunter is far superior when it comes to the action. While Cowboy Bebop boasts some excellent fight scenes, Hunter X Hunter takes it to a whole new level with its creative use of Nen and a seemingly bottomless well of intense set pieces. The series is particularly adept at generating suspense and anticipation as fights become deadlocked and viewers can only guess who will emerge the victor.

All in all, Hunter X Hunter is one of the preeminent anime classics for a reason. From its gripping narrative to its multi-dimensional characters and breathtaking action, it stands leagues beyond Cowboy Bebop. It should come as no surprise, then, that fans have been lauding the show since its inception and have proclaimed it one of the all-time greats.
