Why Bandcamp Makes More Sense for Indie Artists

I have been using Bandcamp for some time, and in my opinion, it is tailor-made for indie artists. What sets it apart is the ability to upload your music and remove it if you feel it’s not right. Another advantage of Bandcamp is that they pay you immediately through PayPal, allowing you to receive 82% of sales, which is quite reasonable. Additionally, you sell directly to your fans. Bandcamp follows a download-only approach, reminiscent of the old-school method. You can record your music, upload it, market it, and receive your money without any waiting.

One challenge indie artists face is determining whom to trust in an ever-growing industry. I understand this struggle myself when it comes to my art.  I have released my music on CDbaby, Distrokid, and Bandcamp. If the reports are accurate, CDbaby has likely been acquired by Virgin. Distrokid claims to pay artists 100% of the profits, but that’s not true. So far, the only platform that seems to be honest is Bandcamp.

Bandcamp is built like a social media platform; where you can engage with your followers. Bandcamp allows you to set your price; which the other platforms I've mentioned previously don't.  You could even sell your merchandise. There's even a place where you could make your whole website a subscription; where your fans can subscribe to you, so there are many advantages as an indie artist on Bandcamp.

If you plan to build a full business around selling your recordings, Bandcamp is an excellent choice. While it may require some additional effort, it is well worth it. Bandcamp embodies what many indie artists dream of in a platform, and I understand why, as I truly enjoy using it.
