Xbox has been a part of the lives of many people. They have ruled the console race for a while, but now they are backing down to focus on possibly making a handheld. The question is: should they? Xbox is only doing this because of Steam. Steam set the example to make handhelds and now everyone is following them. Is Xbox wasting their time? Yes. They should be focused on the PC. Picture an Xbox client on every PC. Xbox should compete against Steam. Not only Steam, but Epic Games as well.
I'm a fan of handheld devices, but I'd love to see them evolve into versatile, PC-like machines. Locked-down systems with a single, unchangeable OS aren't really my thing—I'm all about open ecosystems and flexibility.
The downfall of handheld devices stemmed from the dominance of a single brand, a locked-in operating system, and the reliance on exclusive games. Why do people want that? Like I said, Xbox should stick to focusing solely on PCs, not handhelds.
Should they make their own PCs? No. They should allow people to build their own PCs so that we can make the choice of having Xbox's client on our PCs.
In the end, Xbox doesn't need to follow the handheld trend just because others are doing it. Their strength has always been in creating an incredible gaming ecosystem, and the PC space is where they can truly shine. By focusing on making their client accessible on every PC, Xbox can position itself as a serious competitor to platforms like Steam and Epic Games, without compromising their identity. Sometimes, sticking to what you do best is the smartest move.
